Big lavish weddings are not just a UK thing it is an American thing too! I feel to many brides get caught up in celebrity/royal weddings and want that too and expect not just parents but now friends and other family members to contribute. I have seen some incredibly beautiful weddings done on a budget that looked like they spent a mint. My best friend made her wedding dress and she and her grandmother made all the food. They got her wedding cake from the grocery store that looked great and I don't think she spent $200

I wouldn't expect my mom to pay for a lavish wedding or non lavish wedding for her 52 year old daughter (Me)
