Hello Southernistas! This Sunday is Mother’s Day! I myself am a mom and this Friday I will along with my mom get to see my beautiful and amazing daughter get her BS in Microbiology from NCCU.

For many this is a painful day because your mom is not with you anymore or many experience fertility issues so seeing all the cards, flowers, gifts etc. can be painful. I am truly, truly sorry and my prayer is even through the pain you can celebrate.

Usually I don’t think in terms of biology just because you carry a child doesn’t mean many fill the requirements of motherhood. When I think of a mom I think of someone who is there with a loving embrace, words of wisdom, a cheerleader, my very first best friend, who kissed my boo boos, was my fiercest advocate when I couldn’t advocate for myself, my style icon and stylist, chef, doctor, and so much more! These are characteristics that don’t require blood relations but heart relations. If you have that person in your life weather she be an aunt, neighbor, a older woman at your church or whatever your religion may be, foster mom, adopted mom, cousin, sister and the list goes on but if that is the person that comes to mind when you think of a mom make sure you celebrate her!

Remember a Mom doesn’t equal biology but a Mom is that person who loves you.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to my fellow Moms!
