Happy Thursday Southernistas! Well we’ve almost made it to Friday! I hope you enjoyed your three day weekend and you found a way to honor the legacy of Dr. King.

Yes petite plus is a term in fashion the definition is someone who is 5'3 and under and plus size. This term is not about size but height. I am short (5'3") and so shopping for me can be a bit of challenge as I’m sure many of my vertically challenged sisters can relate. This is a problem when you have love for maxi dresses, maxi skirts, and wide leg pants as I do. Sleeves are way too long, hemlines pool on the floor and don’t get me started on hosiery. I find myself passing on skirts, dresses and pants that I dearly love but the expense of taking them to a seamstress/tailor to be altered can be expensive. I often buy midi dresses and skirts because on me they become maxi dress and capris are not capris but full length pants. As with my smaller straight size sister the struggle when you’re short is real.

With all the discussions that take place in the plus size community about brands using larger models (size 26 & up) to reflect body diversity in the community this is one area that gets overlooked. No one is talking about the problems petite plus women face when we go shopping. Remember the brand Petite Sophisticate that catered to women who wore petite sizes? Where is our plus size version? The average model straight or plus is 5'7 & up but size diversity shouldn’t only be limited to body size but height too.
